The most skilled Korlings were the non-natives who worked their asses off and ended up fluent (usually from Korean wives). In my experience as a linguist, native speakers sometime had some severe shortcomings that were brought about by their greater familiarity w/ the language.sometimes you need to be able to "step outside" of it and they couldn't. It's definitely worth pursuing with some vigor. The Army seems to do (did) this far more than the other services though, so to achieve that goal you may need to transfer to another service. You score highly on the DLPT, so there is a chance that you could, and you would probably bypass DLI altogether. So, from my experience as a linguist (granted, I got out nearly 10 years ago), you could get billets for a native language or one you knew to some degree already.
